QMA Instructor: Ashley Au

Ashley Au is a Winnipeg-based bassist, composer, arranger, and educator. Deeply rooted in the traditions of jazz, roots, funk, and hip-hop, Ashley’s bass-lines are soulful, organic, and heavy.

After completing a degree in Jazz Bass Performance (B. Mus) at Brandon University, under the direction of Michael Cain, Greg Gatien, Eric Platz, and Gilles Fournier, Ashley has become an active member of Winnipeg’s arts scene.

A multifaceted musician, Ashley specializes in the upright and electric basses (4-string, 5-string, and fret-less) as well as guitar, and is a much sought after session musician and music educator.

Current and past projects include work with folk roots songstress, Carly Dow; internationally acclaimed Americana taste-maker, Scott Nolan; jazz-infused hip hop collective, Super Duty Tough Work; emerging indie folk-rock quartet, Odanah; and wild-crafted country-folk troubadours, Bud Gordon and the God Awful Gospel.

Ashley Au teaches bass lessons at Winnipeg's Quest Music Academy.
